The speed limit will soon increase from 55 mph to 60 mph on several area highways. The change comes following an MnDOT study which found that most people drive at an average speed of around 60 mph – regardless of whether the posted limit is 55 or 60 mph. Therefore, the change is not expected to have much of an effect of how most people actually drive. The change goes into effect whenever the new sign has been posted. MnDOT will be replacing signs on area highways over the next several months.
The full list of affected highways is available on page 24 of the MnDOT report.
