The Minnesota House unanimously advanced a bill on Monday that will appropriate additional money for mental health counseling support for farmers and farm families.

Rep. Jeanne Poppe [DFL – Austin], chief author of the measure and chair of Agriculture and Food Finance and Policy Division, stated: “Right now we need to support our farmers and farm families because we have a situation that’s just getting more and more dire. We have farmers who have not been able to make money for the last number of years…It’s just getting more and more stressful.”

Farmers in need of emergency mental health support are encouraged to call the Minnesota Farm and Rural Helpline at 1-833-600-2670.
