#3 (South) Westbrook-Walnut Grove def. #5 (North) Dawson-Boyd: 80-72
- The Blackjacks’ dream run through this year’s section tournament came to a close on Friday in an absolutely thrilling 3A Championship. Dawson-Boyd had trouble establishing momentum early, trailing by as much as 12 in the first half, but chipped that Charger lead to 6, 38-32, by the half off the back of the night’s first Blackjack 3-pointer from the hands of senior guard Gavin Olson. In the second half, Dawson-Boyd would pull the game even three different times, but Westbrook-Walnut Grove seemed to have an answer for each Blackjack run keeping a nose out in front each time. The Chargers were also awarded nearly four times the number of free-throw attempts as the Blackjacks shooting 20-26 from the line to Dawson-Boyd’s 4-7. The Blackjacks end their season 15-10 on the year after an amazing, surprise run in the section tournament.
#4 (North) Redwood Valley def. #1 (South) St. James Area: 74-49
- Redwood Valley first upset the 3AA apple cart eleven days ago with a 67-58 win over 3AA North #1 seed New London-Spicer and never took their foot off the gas for the remainder of section tournament play. The Cardinals grabbed a second upset in a row against #3 seed Morris Area to book a spot in Friday’s Section 3AA Championship Game against #1 (South) St. James Area. What had the potential to be one of the greatest section tests for Redwood Valley turned into the most lop-sided Cardinal victory of the entire tournament. The Cardinals will look to keep the upsets rolling in their State Quarterfinal against #3 seed Perham at 8:00 PM this Wednesday, March 20th at Williams Arena (The Barn).
