The Montevideo Art Project (MAP) has issued a call for artists and citizens who wish to contribute to the latest public art project in downtown Montevideo.  Two community design workshops are being offered on Friday, May 17 from 10 AM to noon and from 4 to 6:00 PM p.m. at the Montevideo Public Library. Anyone interested in possibly having their artwork contributed to a mural to be painted on the set of public stairs at the north end of Main Street is invited to attend.  The workshops are free and open to all.

The new mural is being designed and created by artist Victoria Fortenberry-Jones and will feature a flowing river theme painted on the stairs.  Fortenberry-Jones is accepting drawings of river-themed plants and wildlife to be placed within her design. As many as 20 of the submitted drawings may be incorporated into her mural.   Fortenberry-Jones is requesting that all designs be submitted  on 5”x5” pieces of paper.  She will be present at the workshops at the library to talk to and assist anyone interested in creating a design for the mural.  For those who cannot attend the workshops on May 17, Fortenberry-Jones is allowing digital submissions to be sent to her via email at or by sending a surface mail copy to: MAP Project #4, City of  Montevideo, PO Box 517. Montevideo, MN 56265.

Plans call for the mural to be painted in June and July with a dedication event sometime in August.  For more information on this and other MAP activities, contact Tesa Siverhus Maus at the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce.
