The public is invited to attend a construction open house on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, to learn about the Highway 40 Milan Bridge project. The open house will be held at the Milan City Hall and will run from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
The project includes the replacement of the bridge on Highway 40 that crosses Lac qui Parle Lake, known as the Milan Bridge. The project also includes pedestrian access improvements. Historical elements will be incorporated into the new bridge through the use of iron railing on both sides of the bridge. Stonework will be hand placed to closely match the original construction done by the Works Progress Administration in 1939.
Benefits of the project include a safer and wider bridge, and pedestrian access improvements which comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Construction is planned to begin in mid-May, depending on water levels. The project is estimated to be complete by mid-November. The total project cost is 7.7 million.
Representatives of MnDOT and the construction contractor will be available to answer questions about the construction phase. A detour is required for this project. During the project, access to the DNR boat landing, campground and fishing pier will remain open and be available from the east side of the project only.
