The Montevideo City Council on Monday night voted unanimously to deny a request for in-kind maintenance services by the River Crest Golf Course. Dennis Larson spoke on behalf of the golf course at the June 3 council meeting. He requested assistance from the city in the form of grass mowing, tree trimming and removal, turf maintenance and restoration, and related tasks. The request was referred to city staff for review.
Upon consideration, Interim City Manager Richard Almich recommended a denial of the request. He said the public works department did not have the manpower or equipment to provide the requested services. Additionally, the decision to assist the golf course would establish a precedent for other private properties in need of maintenance services from the city.
Almich also stated that he had received more feedback from residents about this issue than any other throughout his tenure. The vast majority of this feedback was opposed to the proposed partnership.
Following the vote, council members voiced appreciation for the request and excitement about the future of the course.
