The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday released additional information regarding two individuals who died on Sunday following an incident “in a secluded area of Chippewa County west of Sparta Cemetery.” The Sheriff’s Office has identified the individuals as 42-year-old Andy Edward Wilcox and 41-year-old Charity Grace Hoffelt, both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Around noon on Sunday, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report from family members of Wilcox. The family members requested aid in locating Wilcox, who they believed to be in Chippewa County. They also believed Wilcox may be suicidal and accompanied by Hoffelt, his girlfriend.
Wilcox and Hoffelt were located west of Sparta Cemetery. Hoffelt was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilcox was transported to North Memorial in Robbinsdale, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Hoffelt’s death a suicide by gunshot. According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Wilcox also died by gunshot, but the manner of death remains under investigation.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says there are no ongoing public safety risks related to the incident.
