Highway 277, from Highway 40 to Highway 7, officially became Chippewa County Road 4 on Monday, September 16. The Minnesota Department of Transportation transferred ownership of the road back to Chippewa County due in part to low traffic volume.
Chippewa County will now assume all maintenance responsibilities, and will receive some funding annually from the state for maintenance costs. The speed limit will remain the same at 60 miles an hour.
Signage will be changed by the end of the month.
