(Kandiyohi County, MN) — According to a press release, just before 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, the Kandiyohi County Sheriffs Office received a report of a submerged boat with 8 people in the water on Big Kandiyohi Lake. The uninjured occupants of the boat were rescued by individuals on a nearby pontoon.

The investigation revealed that a 1974 Larsen speed boat had a major outboard engine malfunction. The outboard motor had detached from the transom causing the motor and a portion of the boat to fall into the lake. The boat immediately took on water and it began to sink. The age of the boat and the excess occupancy weight are believed to be the cause of the incident.

Water Patrol Deputies were able to remove all parts of the damaged craft from the lake and there were no injuries.
