The Minnesota Supreme Court yesterday affirmed the decision of a Pope County District Court denying a petition by Amanda Lee Peltier for post-conviction relief. Peltier is currently in prison serving a life sentence for 1st degree murder for committing child abuse resulting in the death of 4 year old Eric Parker Dean.

Peltier had made an appeal that her lawyers at the time of the 2013 incident did not inform her that she could plead guilty to the lesser charge of 2nd degree murder. But the Supreme Court found that, even if she had entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge, she provided no evidence that the State would have entered into a plea agreement to give her a shorter prison term.
