Montevideo Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Luther Heller, announced in a voicemail to parents on Sunday afternoon that schools will be closed district wide on Monday, August 31st. This was supposed to be the first day of school. Dr. Heller said that Monday will instead be a teacher planning day. He also indicated that the district will be all distance-based learning this week from Tuesday through Thursday, September 3rd.
The announcement was made because of “The recent increase in the number of staff members under quarantine.” and “Building principals will be putting out more specific details per building.” according to the Montevideo Public Schools’ Facebook page. This news is in light of an announcement this past Friday from the schools that a staff member from both the high school and Sanford Elementary had tested positive for Covid-19, with exposure dates for August 24th and 25th.
Dr. Heller will be on KDMA on Monday morning at approximately 8:10 to discuss the changes.
