Montevideo Public Schools Families,
COVID Response Update:
November 5, 2020
The Montevideo Public School Incident Command Team met this afternoon to discuss the latest data from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), Countryside Public Health and the Regional Support team. Based upon the data and input from all of those agencies, it was decided that effective Monday, November 9, Montevideo Public Schools will return to a hybrid instructional model for all students in grades K-12.
As we make a change in our instructional model, it is important to note that broad community level data alone does not determine a potential change to the learning model. Instead, cases within the school community and what is happening in the schools themselves are the most important considerations. Switching from one model to another is a complicated calculation that can be very disruptive and requires significant planning. School districts have to balance the important benefits of in person learning to the mental and emotional health of their students with the very real risk of COVID spread in a school environment. Any decision to change the model will be made by the school district in consultation with Countryside Public Health, the Regional Support team, the Minnesota Department of Health, and the Minnesota Department of Education.
While it was notable that Chippewa County and the Montevideo community had seen a significant rise in positive COVID cases, the data also showed that we are seeing a downward trend in the number of active positive cases within our region and county. Consideration was also given to the low number of active positive cases among our students and staff and the decrease in the number of student and staff members in quarantine.
This continues to be a challenging time for everyone and we appreciate your understanding and support as we work though the decision making process and the changes between instructional models. We encourage everyone to take the steps necessary to insure the safety of all as we work towards an eventual return to an in-person instructional model.
Thank you and have a good weekend.
Luther L Heller, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
In regards to Ramsey Elementary:
Dear Ramsey Families,
Ramsey will be in the Hybrid Learning model next week. Hopefully you all received the phone call from Dr. Heller last night. It will be good to have students back in the building. Purple students will attend on Monday and Wednesday and Gold Students will attend on Tuesday and Thursday. Selected students will attend on Friday. If your child had previously attended on Friday, plan to have them continue to attend. If you have any questions regarding days which your child attends, please contact your child’s teacher.
